DC King of Vancouver

I heard of the skateboarding scene in Vancouver, and I was pretty curious to see it for myself. I thought those kids who have mountains to snowboard all winter must be pretty rad and fearless at taking ramps and rails.

I should mention that I don’t skateboard, in fact I have very little hands on experience. It’s not that I don’t want to, I begged for my first skateboard when I was about 9, my parents had no clue, obviously, they got me a cheap one and the wheels weren’t exactly rolling smoothly. There wasn’t a skate park where I lived, nor the right kind of concrete. I know I’m making excuses, when you really want something you overcome obstacles, I guess I didn’t really bother.

I love watching skateboarding nonetheless and I am fascinated by the culture that goes with it. So checking out the King of Vancouver competition at the Vancouver Skate Plaza, pure concrete all around us and the skytrain regularly passing by over our heads was pretty cool.

Some of the kids looked like they were no older than 12. My only regret: no girls.
